You could say the wee lobby of our small-town post office lacks privacy. And those bare white walls and overtired clerks offer little warmth when tensions mount or matters of a personal nature arise.
The other day, Garth was in line when this happened to a friend of ours. While two clerks openly discussed our friend’s divorce-related mail-delivery hiccup, a third kept the line moving.
Garth traded his yellow card for his Amazon package. Then he waited outside to gently ambush his friend with a word of encouragement.
“It’s okay,” the friend said. “I’m used to it. Besides . . . Easter’s coming anyway.”
Hmm. Wow. Amen.
His words got me thinking of how, just a month ago, our clumpy desert landscape lay completely buried under several feet of snow. Week upon week, you’d have never known life lived and breathed under there. Least of all, chest-high shrubs.
Weighed down.
Bent under their burden.
Awaiting the light of day.
I’ve been buried like that. Borne my share of troubles that would make postal patrons perk their ears. Felt I might suffocate. Fought shame.
Most are in the rear view mirror now. Others require I take the longer view.
And here’s how I see it today. Eventually, while I’m waiting, it happens—just like it happened several weeks ago out on our back twenty acres.
Sunlight wins. Snow melts.
The brush arises. Solid ground appears.
Friends, against all odds the veil tore. Following the darkest day in history (His Story), Jesus conquered death. Our Lord arose.
The tombstone rolled!
Something been weighing you down, obscuring your view of the light?
Betrayal.
Debt.
Uncertainty.
Disillusionment.
Don’t think you have what it takes to break through? You don’t have to. Enough faith to pray is enough faith.

Oswald Chambers wrote, “We have to learn to live in the grey day according to what we saw on the mount.”
Remember the light you’ve been shown.
No matter how deep we’re buried.
Regardless how crushed our spirits.
And whether or not we believe it . . .
Easter’s coming anyway!
